Abstract

Introduction: there is evidence that black people have poor oral health compared to other racial groups, but little is known about social, individual and oral health contextual factors involved. Objective: to present a protocol for the elaboration of a scoping review on the factors associated with tooth loss in the black elderly population. Methods: three-step search strategy. Search in MEDLINE (PubMed), LILACS, SciELO, Scopus and Google Scholar, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. Studies in English, Spanish and Portuguese will be included. Extracted data will be presented in the form of a flowchart, graphs and tables with information on population, concept, context and results or findings relevant to the review question. Inclusion criteria: studies with elderly patients, 60 years of age or older, of both sexes, and that contain the black, black-brown or African-American race as an ethnic/racial subgroup. Quantitative and qualitative studies, theses, texts, reports and studies with no date limit will be considered.
